The self-help group is in the process of being founded.

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis

Region: Erfurt

In addition to advice from specialists, sharing experiences among those affected can be an important support for coping with a chronic bowel disease. This is why the scientific guidelines for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis also recommend that doctors inform their patients of the support available from self-help groups.

By meeting other sufferers, patients experience that they are not alone with their symptoms, which are little known to the public and often taboo. In this way, isolation can be overcome and offers of help can be better perceived. Studies from self-help research suggest that, for example, the exchange of experiences and mutual emotional support strengthen the ability of those affected to actively contribute to the promotion of their well-being. In other words: self-help is good for you!
