Celiac disease for relatives and sufferers
Region: Jena und Umgebung
Description:
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease in which an immune reaction to the gluten protein (gliadin) takes place in the body. Gluten is a component of many cereals that are widely used in the diet (including wheat, spelt, rye, etc.). The intestinal mucosa becomes inflamed when gluten is ingested and the villi in the small intestine regress. This reduces the absorption of nutrients, which over time can lead to nutrient deficiencies with a variety of consequences - it is not for nothing that coeliac disease is also known as a disease with a chameleon character.
The only treatment currently available is a lifelong strict gluten-free diet. However, this can present relatives and sufferers with very practical and very individual challenges, whether at home or away, at family celebrations, with friends or on vacation. The focus of the self-help group is on networking between relatives and sufferers as well as sharing experiences and tips relating to the gluten-free diet.
Our aim is to set up a self-help group for relatives and people affected by coeliac disease.
We look forward to meeting you.
