A few general facts about migraines:
Migraine
- Is the most common neurological disorder in Germany. It affects around 18 million people here (source see below). Most of them are in employment.
- The disease is more common than diabetes, asthma and epilepsy combined. There is no cure for migraine.
- No. 1 chronic disease in the population under 50.
- Has a genetic component, i.e. there is an inherited predisposition. Various hormones and living conditions also play a role, possibly as triggers for attacks.
- The frequency and duration of an attack vary. Sometimes sufferers know the signs of an attack. Migraines can make you very ill every day.
- Can be a reason for the recognition of a disability or equal status in working life. In the 15 to 49 age group, it is the most common cause of disability in women (Global Burden of Disease study).
Special features of migraine
Migraine is an invisible neurological disorder that can be very debilitating at times and cannot be cured.
Group meetings
The group meetings take place every four to six weeks on Wednesdays at IKOS. Anyone affected is welcome to attend.
