Women with neurodivergence
Region: Jena und Umgebung
We are looking for people interested in joining a new support group!
The term neurodivergence describes natural differences in brain function. Processes such as perception, attention, and emotion regulation work differently in neurodivergent people than in neurotypical people. This can lead to various challenges in everyday life, social environments, work, school, or university.
Neurodivergence includes, for example, ADHD, autism, or high sensitivity. Due to female socialization, many women “fall through the diagnostic grid.” As a result, their symptoms are not taken seriously or they are even given the wrong diagnosis. A diagnosis can provide initial guidance and relief that there is an explanation for the feeling of being “somehow different from others.” This often costs money, involves years of waiting, and is not equally accessible to everyone. In addition to the difficulty of obtaining an official diagnosis, there are still too few psychotherapeutic and psychiatric services available. However, if left untreated, secondary illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders, or addictive behavior can develop. The underlying neurodivergence is often overlooked.
In this group, we want to exchange ideas, share experiences, listen to each other, and offer mutual support. We don't just want to talk about difficulties, but also highlight and celebrate our strengths and be there for each other.
All women are welcome, whether they have an official diagnosis or not. If you are interested, please contact IKOS.
