Deaf association Jena e. V.
Region: Jena
Our association was founded in 1957 as the local group Jena of the ADGV (Allgemeiner Deutscher Gehörlosenverein) .
At that time, the aim was to gather the deaf (“deaf-mutes") and to enable them to spend their leisure time in a manner appropriate to their hearing impairment.
In the past, as today, mutual help is the principle of our association. The traditional gatherings of members and events, e.g. play afternoons, bus trips and hiking days are the basis of our association's work. In the meantime we have expanded our program, e.g. lectures and consultations on technical aids, on the problems of hearing impairment and on sign language.
Our association is open to hearing impaired people, their relatives and everyone who wants to help.
The Jena association is a member of the Landesverband der Gehörlosen Thüringen e. V. (State association of the deaf of Thuringia).
