Epilepsy

Region: Jena

The group was founded in 1993. We have people different ages in our group. Everybody is welcome.

Disease profile

Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder in the world. If you have epilepsy, surges of electrical activity in your brain can cause recurring seizures. We can help you in understanding about epilepsy and give advice how to manage daily life easier.

Goals and tasks

  • Epilepsy needs openness: not isolation, but  social contact and security in everyday life consolidate the individual
  • Epilepsy needs social contacts: Relating to reality and coping with all tasks of everyday life is what we strive for; but also the understanding of the public
  • Epilepsy needs exchange and help: Often lifelong therapy is necessary, although great advances in medicine already make brain operations possible, which bring a decisive improvement in the quality of life of those affected.

The effect of our disease on family and public is not always easy. We strive to help in the group to achieve a better quality of life through correct behavior. We ask those affected to come to us. We help each other to get to know each other through socializing, information and exchange.

There are contacts to self-help groups in other places as well as to the center for epilepsy patients in Berlin. We also maintain the acquisition and exchange of disease-related literature and other materials and meet monthly.

Group meetings

We meet every second Wednesday a month at 2:00 pm at IKOS.
